Ask a handful of PC gamers why they don’t like to play shooters on console systems like the Xbox and the PS3, and several of them will tell you they want a mouse and keyboard for shooters. Controller maker SplitFish unveiled its slick Dual SFX Frag Pro that adds a mouse to the PS3, but we have not known when the device would ship until now.

SplitFish announced today that the SFX Frag Pro controller would ship on November 10. In case you aren’t familiar with the product, the controller has a mouse section with 2000dpi sensitivity and a second section called a Fragchuck that function together as s full function controller for PCs and the PS3.
I can certainly see the usefulness of the mouse section, but I am dubious about the Fragchuck section where the directional control is placed. It has to be better than playing with a normal PS3 controller though. The controller will sell for about $90.

The netbook market is getting very crowded today with companies that don’t even make computers getting in on the segment. That means that many of netbooks out there are the same machine with different brand names. The latest non-computer maker to get into the netbook market is Hercules. Hercules is a company more known for its line of gaming peripherals than anything else. The firm has announced its new eCafe EC-1000W netbook will ship in October for $399. The netbook has a cool design with a lid different from anything else on the market. Under the hood, the machine has a 250GB HDD, which is significantly larger than the HDD on most notebooks. The screen is a 10.1-inch 1024 x 600 unit and the processor is an Intel Atom N270. Other features include Wi-Fi, a 6-cell battery, 1GB of RAM, and a webcam with mic.

This Alien hanging lamp is pretty creepy. Is it an alien disguised as sperm, or sperm disguised as an alien. Either way, it isn’t a clever disguise. Who wants to sit at a table under sperm suspended from the ceiling? No one wants a sperm attack when eating a little dinner or just chillin’ with friends. The lamp is described like so. It’s “organic shape is reminiscent of a strange, otherworldly creature sliding down a rope, gently and almost weightlessly radiating a warm and graceful light”. Whatevs. Call it what you want. We’ve seen many devices to help the blind, but this is one of the coolest. BrainPort was first introduced in 2006. The idea was that it would allow users to regain some vision via a camera and electrical impulses sent to the tongue. Now we learn that the device may actually be available commercially very soon.

The BrainPort decodes signals from a camera on your head and transforms them into electrical impulses that hit your tongue, but gently, not joltingly. The impulses are then experienced as spatial awareness and even give one the ability to read text. Pretty amazing stuff. The device is awaiting FDA approval at the moment, but hopefully the BrainPort will be available early next year in the $10,000 range.

Japanese company Nendo has designed this wireless home speaker that matches the crazy old lady decor of white lace and bird cages everywhere. It also works via Bluetooth and is available in black or white. Guess which one your grandmother would choose. The Music Cage comes in just one size with some retro chrome switches like in the old days.

It can be displayed on a table or suspended from the ceiling. If you gift one of these to your grandma, expect a call asking where her bird went and why she can’t get in to put newspaper on the bottom. This one is for the birds.

I-O Data has released their latest SEG Clip {GV-SC310), a tiny USB 1seg TV tuner for PC, iPhone and iPod Touch. SEG Clip is very easy to use. You just need to install SEG Clip companion software to the PC and iPhone/iPod Touch and you can access to live or recorded TV programs streamed to you from your PC. Chinese gadget maker Tainell has launched a brand spanking new Atom-powered MID dubbed the Tainell T500. The Windows XP-powered device sports a 5-inch 1024 x 600 touchscreen display with a 1.1GHz Intel Atom Z510 processor.

Some other interesting features include: 1GB of RAM, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, 3G WWAN connectivity and an HDMI port. How about a 32GB SSD and a VGA webcam? Unfortunately we don’t have any info on pricing just yet. Anyway, we don’t expect to see this one outside of China anytime soon. Sounds too good to be true given the company this is coming from.

Roku users now have something else to smile about. In addition to Netflix and Amazon on Demand, Roku users can now access baseball games from premium MLB.tv accounts. This means live, out-of-market games as well as on-demand games from the past week.

The downside is that you have to be a subscriber of the paid MLB.tv service, which costs $35 for the remainder of the 2009 season. But chances are that if you are a subscriber already, then you are a serious baseball fan, so it’s probably worth it. The Roku box would be a great way to get on-demand and live baseball on your TV. According to MLB.tv, the picture is HD quality.

It seems like each week we have new SSDs hitting the market. That is a good thing, the more options we have for SSDs on the market, the lower the price tends to be. SSDS are still considerably more expensive than comparable hard drives today though.

Kingston has announced its latest SSD called the SSDNow V+. The SSD is designed for high performance with higher input and output operations per second and faster read and write speeds. The drive is a 2.5-inch form factor.

Kingston reports that the SSD will ship in 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB capacities. The sequential read speed is up to 220MB/sec and the write speed is up to 180MB/sec. The SSD is capable of random 4K read speeds of up to 6300 IOPS and 4K writes of up to 291 IOPS. The 64GB SSD is available now for $254 with the 128GB selling for $500 and the 256GB for $992 when they launch.

You know things are bad when gadgets encourage you to recycle candles. Screw electricity. That costs money. Time to go back to candles. Candles will never send you a bill, and candles can not be shut off by the electric company. Plus they can be recycled. Take that electric company.

Here’s a concept that would really help the visually impaired and blind. The Touch & Go navigation system is a combination of a hand gadget and an earpiece that will give you directions as a relief map on its wearable navigator with tactile display.

The scale is 1:1,000 and the center of the display is where the user is currently. An arrow points toward where you should go, while audio through the earphones will speak any other details needed. Pretty interesting take on navigation for the blind. We hope to see this one become real.

Rumor is that Netflix is going to let iPhone users get in on the fun of streaming movies via WIFI. Users would love it of course, but how would they do it? The iPhone doesn’t support Flash, so it’s probably not going to be a web portal.

Netflix could develop its own app and do it all itself we suppose. How do you think AT&T would feel about users watching video on its wireless network without paying though? We would be surprised if this one panned out anytime soon.
